Originally part of the Nine Mile Trolley route, VaHi was in decline until the 1960’s, when the threat of having an interstate highway go right through the area rallied the spirit of the local residents, who banded together and changed the course of the highway. That community spirit is alive and well in Virginia-Highlands. It is that spirit that makes it so enjoyable to work with the people in around the VaHi area.
